Instructions for Carne Asada Sopes

Add harina, salt in a bowl and mix with fingers. Next, add warm water and mix together until harina is clumped in a big ball. If dough is too runny add more harina, and if too dry add more water. The harina should hold itself together.

It is easier to work with masa when hands are wet with water. Begin to pull pieces of dough forming small balls of dough. Flatten dough with two wax papers and press with bottom of plate.

Warm a skillet over medium high heat. Place sopes on skillet and warm for 1 minute on each side, remove sopes from heat and allow sopes to cool for about 45 seconds, quickly pinch edges around dough using your fingers. The outer edge of sope will be raised about ¼ inch to keep ingredients secure in sope shell.

Once edges of sopes are formed, return sopes to pan and cook until both sides are golden brown and are fully cooked. If needed drizzle olive oil around skillet to keep masa from sticking.

Chop tomatoes, red onion, lettuce, and slice avocado.
